About us

University cancer care has its advantages. Since physicians and nurse practitioners of POG trained and served as faculty at various university cancer centers, we value the advantages that comes from the university setting. Perhaps the most powerful advantage are the cohesive protocols and processes that are implemented for each specific cancer. These processes are done in collaboration with surgical, medical and radiation oncologists. The processes reduce errors, ensure best practices, and improve efficiencies. Everyone is on the same page. The limitation of university cancer care is that it can be impersonal. Patients feel lost in the cornucopia of supportive staff, residents, medical students, nurses, and physicians. Furthermore, Universities are often located in larger cities, causing many patients to drive great distances for their care.
Community cancer care, in the right circumstances, can be as good, if not better, then university cancer care. The greatest advantage of community care is the personalized medicine which most patients strongly desire. There is also convenience and familiarity with community care, which after a frightening diagnosis of cancer, is very important. The potential problem with community care is that it may be fragmented. Often times, clinical processes are not clearly in place. This fragmentation may lead to outdated treatments, mistakes, or unnecessary procedures.

The POG Advantage

POG understands the advantages of both university and community cancer care. Our mission is to bridge the gaps between both types of care. We do this by bringing clinical processes, with physician collaboration, to the community while still maintaining the personalized touch which patients value and need.
